FISH

The Upper Chattahoochee River harbors two fish species of special concern.

The Bluestripe shiner (Cyprinella callitaenia) is a species of special concern with no designated legal status under the endangered species act. It has received a threatened designation by the state of Georgia. The Bluestripe shiner is also an endemic species meaning it appears nowhere outside the Chattahoochee Basin. (Corps ’98 –ACF report)

The Highscale shiner (Notropis hypsilepis) is a species of special concern with no designated legal status under the endangered species act. It has received a threatened designation by the state of Georgia.

MUSSELS

The Shiny-rayed pocketbook (Lampsilis subangulata) is an endangered species located in the lower Chattahoochee Basin. (Corps ’98 – ACF Report)

The Oval pigtoe (Pleurobema pyriforme) is an endangered species located in the lower Chattahoochee Basin. Formerly common throughout much of the lower basin, it occurs in both tributaries and the main channel. Suitable habitat for the oval pigtoe ranges from silty sand to gravel substrates, and in slow to moderate currents. (Corps ’98 – ACF Report)
