PROTECTION ACTIVITIESThe Black Warrior River basin has a high number of community water protection groups (and clean water partnership efforts) relative to other parts of the state, due in large part to the large populations surrounding the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa metropolitan areas. Residents within these basins also recognize how vital these resources are to the future quality of life, economic prosperity, and natural integrity of this rapidly developing region of the state.
Bayview Lake Cleanup Association The Black Warrior Clean Water Partnership (a stakeholder effort for the entire basin) has targeted the Locust and Mulberry Fork watersheds as top priorities for conservation, in part due to the high number of stream segments within these basins not meeting water quality standards. For more information on protection activities you can do a general search for any of the groups listed above or contact the Alabama Rivers Alliance or Alabama Water Watch, which are statewide groups that assist local water protection efforts.
